Introduction

This guide explains how to read the Qilowatt app dashboard and what the different indicators and sections mean.
The dashboard provides a clear and comprehensive overview of all your devices in one place, helping you better understand energy flows, costs, and revenue.

How to read the dashboard?

Device status

A green icon next to the device name indicates that the device is online.
Below the device name, the current status is displayed:
- Boilers – ON / OFF status
- Inverters – current work mode

👉 To change the work mode, click on the work mode button.

Animated energy flow

In the main view, you will see a real-time animated diagram that visualizes your energy flows.
This provides a detailed overview of:
• where energy is coming from,
• where it is going,
• how your system is currently operating.

Statistics section

Each device features a statistics section that displays both energy volumes (kWh) and financial cost/revenue.

• Grid – The amount of energy purchased from and sold to the grid, along with its associated cost and revenue. For inverters, these quantities are also visible on your electricity seller’s bill, though they may differ slightly within the margin of measurement error. For other devices (boiler, heat pump, etc.), the energy volumes of that specific device are measured. Financial cost and revenue include all components entered into your device’s energy profile, such as margins, grid fees, taxes, etc. The cost figure (red) represents the cost of purchased energy; the revenue figure (green) represents the value of energy sold to the grid.
• PV – The amount of energy produced by solar panels and its financial value if it had been purchased from the grid. Produced energy shows only the amount of energy generated by the solar panels. The financial value is estimated and calculated based on the electricity import price configured in the energy profile, multiplied by the amount of energy produced.
• Battery – Battery charging and discharging volumes, i.e., the amount of energy stored in and used from the battery during the period.
• Load – Energy consumed by the load and its cost in the case of direct consumption from the grid. This reflects the total energy consumption measured by the inverter at home (or another location) and its estimated cost if it had been consumed directly from the grid, calculated by multiplying the consumption by the energy import price configured in the energy profile.
• FRR – Revenue earned from participating in the regulation market. Includes both regulation market and capacity market revenue.
• Savings – Your financial savings both with and without regulation market revenue. If there is no regulation market revenue, both figures will be the same.
For inverters, this is calculated using the formula: (cost of energy consumed at home – cost of energy purchased from the grid + revenue from energy sold to the grid), plus FRR revenue.
For other devices (such as a boiler), it is calculated by taking into account the daily consumption times of the controlled device’s historical baseline consumption and comparing it with the prices during the actual times of the managed consumption.

Time intervals

You can select a preferred time period to view statistics for:
• Current month
• Previous month
• Last week
• Yesterday
This allows you to compare performance across different periods.

Device management

Using the icon in the top right corner, you can:
• Sort devices
• Hide devices that you do not currently want to monitor
Hidden devices appear at the bottom of the view under “Hidden devices”.

Flexibility Market – Report Information

Introduction

Flexibility market revenue can be viewed in detail using the report Balancing Service Revenue Details. Below is an explanation of all fields shown in the report and what they mean.

Field Descriptions

Trader
– Flexibility market service provider, in this example KratTrade.
Start
– Start time of the regulation signal.
End
– End time of the regulation signal.
BRP Compensation
– Compensation (BRP Comp) used to cover the balance provider’s cost caused by the customer participating in the flexibility market.

UP Regulated Energy
– Measured energy volume during upward regulation (selling direction).
Only the change is counted:
A baseline value (zero point) is calculated 4 minutes before the signal starts, and the payable energy is measured from this baseline.
UP Revenue
– Total revenue from upward regulation (selling direction).
UP Revenue – BRP
– BRP Compensation deducted from upward regulation revenue (paid to the balance provider).
DOWN Regulated Energy
– Measured energy volume during downward regulation (buying direction).
Only the change is counted from the baseline determined 4 minutes before the signal.
DOWN Revenue
– Total revenue from downward regulation.
DOWN Revenue + BRP
– BRP Compensation added to downward regulation revenue (paid to the customer).
During DOWN signals the customer consumes more or produces less, which stabilises the system and reduces the BRP’s balancing cost.
For this reason, BRP Comp is positive for DOWN direction.
Total Regulated Energy
– Total volume of regulated energy.
Total Revenue
– Total revenue.
Total Revenue BRP
– Total revenue including BRP Compensation.
Revenue %
– Customer’s contractual revenue percentage.
Total Revenue Share
– Customer’s share of the total earned revenue.

What is BRP Compensation?

Every electricity supplier (e.g., Alexela, Enefit, etc.) must forecast daily how much electricity their customers will consume or produce the following day. Based on this forecast, electricity is bought or sold on the Nord Pool market.

When a customer participates in the Flexibility Market, their battery or other device follows Elering’s frequency regulation signal, meaning it consumes or produces exactly what the system requires — not what the balance provider predicted.

This creates a deviation from the forecast, called imbalance energy. The balance provider must later buy or sell this energy on the balancing market. Balancing market prices differ from Nord Pool prices and can be more expensive for the balance provider.

To ensure the balance provider does not incur losses because the customer participates in the flexibility market, BRP Compensation is used: it is a small portion of the customer’s flexibility market revenue that is automatically redirected to the balance provider to cover imbalance costs.

This is fully automatic for the customer — KratTrade handles BRP Compensation payments directly to the balance provider. The customer receives the rest of the flexibility market revenue.

New Subscription / Renewal

Introduction

An active subscription is required to use the Qilowatt service. If you wish to extend your subscription, you need to start a new subscription in the app. Note! New subscription = subscription renewal.

Prerequisites

• You have already joined the Qilowatt service and have had at least one active subscription
• Internet connection available

Step-by-step Guide

1. Log in to the Qilowatt app and select “Subscriptions” from the menu.
2. Click the “New Subscription” button.
• Although this is a renewal, it is done by creating a new subscription.
3. A pop-up window will open.
4. Select from the drop-down menu:
• the device for which the subscription will be valid,
• the subscription period.
5. Select payment method (bank).
6. You will be redirected to the online bank, where you can confirm the payment.

Result

The subscription has been successfully renewed and the service will continue without interruption.

Creating a User Account

Introduction

To use the Qilowatt app, you need to create a personal user account. With an account, you can manage your devices, monitor energy consumption, and utilize Qilowatt’s automatic optimization features.

Prerequisites

• Internet connection
• Valid email address or Google account

Step-by-step Guide

1. Open the website https://app.qilowatt.it.
2. On the login page, click the link Register now.
3. A registration form will open, where you need to fill in the following fields:
• Name
• Email
• Country
• Language
• Password

4. Click register.
5. Alternatively, you can choose Sign in with Google (registration and login are done via a Google account).
6. Check your email – a confirmation email will be sent there.
7. Open the confirmation email and click the link to activate your account.

Result

Once the account has been successfully created and confirmed, you can immediately log in to the Qilowatt app and start adding devices.

If it Doesn’t Work

• If the confirmation email does not arrive, check your spam folder.
• If the password does not work, use the Forgot password? link.
• If registration with a Google account fails, try email registration.
